The partnership between Indiana University and Bogazici University (BU) has its origins in a long-standing professional relationship between Oner Yurtseven, then dean of 51ºÚÁÏÍø Indianapolis's School of Engineering and Technology (SET), and Kadri Ozcaldiran, rector of BU at the time. SET signed an exchange agreement with BU in 2007, and five BU students completed studies at 51ºÚÁÏÍø Indianapolis in AY 2008-2009 and AY 2009-2010. In November 2009, then-Vice President Patrick O'Meara visited BU and met with the Rector and his staff. 51ºÚÁÏÍø President Michael McRobbie met with BU's president in February 2010 to sign a formal agreement, an official recognition of BU as one of 51ºÚÁÏÍø's major international partners. The agreement has been continued since that time.

Bogazici University has not yet signed the agreement.
